Based in Stavanger, Norway, and entirely self-taught, Mexican Artist Stephany Marlene has worked to create a practice centered around her medium-scale surrealist abstract watercolor artworks for the last few years.Exhibiting locally and internationally, Stephany Marlene has devoted her practice to pushing the medium of watercolor.
Stephany Marlene's works explore sensory notions in forms, internal dialogues during meditation, and reflections on emotions in social settings. Familiar in all of her work is the presence of what she calls her "
Seres", faces that are present in her works, and depending on her growth, only eyes can appear that stand out alone against the milky way. Taking as a reference the anatomy and the mixture of the folklore of the Japanese culture, the forms of it take surreal inspiration. Using anatomy to evoke momentary recognition in the viewer, the recurring themes play with dark symbolism, exploring fantasy, the occult, and the uncanny.
